ER-mitochondria contacts mediate lipid radical transfer via RMDN3/PTPIP51 phosphorylation to reduce mitochondrial oxidative stress

Mitochondria-ER contacts are an organelle exchange site for lipids and ions, but their regulation is not well understood. Here, Isshin et al. find that RMDN3 transfers lipid radicals, generated by mtROS, from mitochondria to the ER at contact sites to reduce toxicity to the cell.

Mitochondrial ubiquitin ligase alleviates Alzheimer’s disease pathology via blocking the toxic amyloid-β oligomer generation

Takeda et al. investigate the role of mitochondrial ubiquitin ligase (MITOL) in Alzheimer’s disease progression. They demonstrate that MITOL has a direct effect on mitochondrial dynamics and functioning and its ablation can enhance the seeding effect of Aβ-plaques, leading to cognitive decline in the transgenic mice model of Alzheimer’s disease.
