The glutamine fructose-6-phosphate amidotransferase 1 (GFAT-1) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the hexosamine pathway producing uridine 5’-diphospho-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc), an essential glycosylation precursor.
