Qian, Pan, Su et al. show that bone morphogenetic protein receptor type 2 (BMPR2) deficiency makes white adipocytes prone to death. This study suggests that BMPR2 is required for fat cells to effectively generate energy from the stored fat for their survival during energetically demanding situations such as inflammation.
