Chromosome-level scaffolding of haplotype-resolved assemblies using Hi-C data without reference genomes

This study uncovers key challenges in allele-aware genome scaffolding with Hi-C data. A reference-independent Hi-C scaffolder showing superior performance was developed to construct the haplotype-resolved genome of triploid Miscanthus × giganteus.

Newly formed dust within the circumstellar environment of SN Ia-CSM 2018evt

By day 1,041 after explosion, SN Ia-CSM 2018evt had produced an estimated 0.01 solar masses of dust in the cold, dense shell behind the supernova ejecta–circumstellar medium interaction, ranking it as one of the most prolific dust-producing supernovae ever recorded.

hpCasMINI: An engineered hypercompact CRISPR-Cas12f system with boosted gene editing activity

Although Cas12f proteins benefit from compact size for delivery, their gene-editing activity remains limited. By adding an N-terminal α-helix to Cas12f, we created hpCasMINI, hpOsCas12f1, and hpAsCas12f1 variants that show improved gene activation and DNA cleavage in mammalian cells and mice.

Observations of the X8.2 solar flare, which happened on 2017 September 10, could spatially resolve the distribution of the energetic electrons along the reconnection current sheet. More than 99% of them are concentrated at the bottom of the current sheet, not at the reconnection X point.
