Angiogenic and immune predictors of neoadjuvant axitinib response in renal cell carcinoma with venous tumour thrombus

Venous tumour thrombus can occur within renal cell carcinoma, and can require complex additional surgery and treatment. Here, the authors analyse multiparametric data from patients treated with axitinib and develop a machine learning model to predict neoadjuvant treatment response.

Integrated radiogenomics models predict response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in high grade serous ovarian cancer

Response to treatment in high grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) is highly variable. Here, the authors leverage a radiogenomic model to predict neoadjuvant chemotherapy response in HGSOC, including clinical data, medical imaging, and blood-based biomarkers such as CA-125 and ctDNA features.

Distinct conformations of the HIV-1 V3 loop crown are targetable for broad neutralization

The V3-crown of the HIV-1 envelope protein largely elicits non-neutralizing antibodies. Here, the authors show that the V3-crown can be targeted by broadly neutralizing designed ankyrin repeat proteins recognizing two conformations one of which resembles CCR5- bound V3.

Common pitfalls and recommendations for using machine learning to detect and prognosticate for COVID-19 using chest radiographs and CT scans

Many machine learning-based approaches have been developed for the prognosis and diagnosis of COVID-19 from medical images and this Analysis identifies over 2,200 relevant published papers and preprints in this area. After initial screening, 62 studies are analysed and the authors find they all have methodological flaws standing in the way of clinical utility. The authors have several recommendations to address these issues.
