Raised Leptin and Pappalysin2 cell-free RNAs are the hallmarks of pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia with fetal growth restriction

Early detection could improve prognosis for preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction, major causes of maternal/fetal morbidity and mortality. Here they show that Leptin and Pappalysin2 cell free RNAs are elevated in maternal plasma in cases of PE + FGR.

Structural and functional constraints in the evolution of protein families

Amino acid substitutions in divergent protein families reflect both Darwinian selection and neutral evolution. The latter operates within structural and functional constraints and arises from the need to conserve protein architecture and interactions that are important for the survival of the organism.

Fetal inheritance of chromosomally integrated human herpesvirus 6 predisposes the mother to pre-eclampsia

Here, using RNA sequencing and data from several cohorts, the authors find an association of the presence of inherited, chromosomally integrated human herpesvirus 6 in the placenta with a clinical diagnosis of pre-eclampsia in the mother.

Sex-dependent metabolism of spermine alter trophoblast gene expression through acetyl-coA biosynthesis and histone acetylation, indicating that escape of spermine synthase from X-linked inactivation partially contributes to placental sex differences.
