Spin injection and detection in lanthanum- and niobium-doped SrTiO₃ using the Hanle technique

A crucial prerequisite for semiconductor-based spintronic devices is that the spins of the charge carriers can be efficiently injected and detected. Here, the authors achieve such functionality in niobium-doped strontium titanate by the Hanle technique, and at the same time demonstrate the limitations of this approach.

Quantum critical behaviour in confined SrTiO₃ quantum wells embedded in antiferromagnetic SmTiO₃

Oxide heterostructures are attractive for their tuneable properties such as magnetism. Here, the authors find that SrTiO₃/SmTiO₃heterostructures with very high sheet carrier densities show quantum critical behaviour, sensitive also to variations in layer thickness.

Resistive switching and its suppression in Pt/Nb:SrTiO₃ junctions

Understanding the resistive switching mechanism in oxide-based memories is an ongoing challenge. Here, the authors isolate an unintentional interfacial layer as the origin of resistive switching in Pt/Nb:SrTiO₃junctions, and show that suitable processing can remove this unwanted contribution.

Epitaxial SrTiO₃ films with electron mobilities exceeding 30,000 cm² V⁻¹ s⁻¹

Quantum transport phenomena have been widely investigated in semiconducting compounds, but extending these studies to oxides is not simple owing to their low mobilities. It is now demonstrated that SrTiO₃ films can be grown by molecular beam epitaxy; the films show very high electron mobility, opening the way to oxide heterostructures with excellent transport properties.

The scaffold protein p62 regulates adaptive thermogenesis through ATF2 nuclear target activation

Beta-adrenergic stimulation of brown adipose tissue leads to thermogenesis via the activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) mediated expression of the thermogenic genes Ucp1 and Pgc-1α. Here, the authors show that the scaffold protein p62 regulates brown adipose tissue function through modifying ATF2 genomic binding and subsequent Ucp1 and Pgc-1α induction.
