Chemically inducible diffusion trap at cilia reveals molecular sieve–like barrier

Chemically inducible diffusion trap at cilia (CIDTc), a method to trap proteins in the cilia, was applied to study the kinetics of protein accumulation and reveal a molecular sieve at the ciliary base. CIDTc can also be applied to study signaling pathways in the cilia.

Non-catalytic role of phosphoinositide 3-kinase in mesenchymal cell migration through non-canonical induction of p85β/AP2-mediated endocytosis

PI3 kinase is known to promote cell migration through its catalytic activity. Here, the authors show that the kinase also induces endocytosis through a non-catalytic pathway that actually decreases migratory speed and persistence, revealing a more subtle regulation of motility.

PIP₂ determines length and stability of primary cilia by balancing membrane turnovers

By using methods to synthesise or degrade PIP₂ selectively in the ciliary membrane, Stilling et al. find that PIP₂ levels determine the length of primary cilia. They show that various pathways converge on PIP₂ which induces ciliary fission in a manner dependent on actin, AurkA and HDAC6.
