Sequence-independent and rapid long-range charge transfer through DNA

The presence of adenine–thymine base pairs in DNA duplexes significantly reduces their electrical conductivity. However, by replacing adenine with a closely related analogue that does not disturb the normal complementary base pairing, it is possible to make duplexes that can transfer charge efficiently without having to use only guanine–cytosine base pairs.

Metal oxide mesocrystals with tailored structures and properties for energy conversion and storage applications

Mesocrystals are superstructures with a crystallographically ordered alignment of nanoparticles and posses unique characteristics such as a high surface area, pore accessibility, and good electronic conductivity and thermal stability. This review summarizes the recent developments of metal oxide mesocrystals in the fields of energy conversion and storage.

A nanocomposite superstructure of metal oxides with effective charge transfer interfaces

Mesocrystals are periodic arrangements of nanoparticles that allow for a tuning of the superstructure properties via its constituents. Here Bian et al. combine the properties of different nanocrystalline materials and fabricate a superstructure of two metal oxides with n- and p-type polarity.

Selective photocatalytic CO₂ reduction in aerobic environment by microporous Pd-porphyrin-based polymers coated hollow TiO₂

While selective CO₂ reduction is crucial for its removal from the environment, the presence of O₂ hinders this process. Here authors show CO₂ photoreduction in the presence of O₂ by incorporating Pd(II) sites into a coordination polymer on TiO₂ to selectively adsorb CO₂.

Spontaneous spin-valley polarization in NbSe₂ at a van der Waals interface

Van der Waals heterostructures made of 2D materials offer a rich platform for the study of novel proximity effects. Here, by means of Hall effect measurements, the authors show a proximity-induced ferromagnetic/ferrovalley ground state with spontaneous spin-valley polarization in a V₅Se₈/NbSe₂ heterostructure.

Synthesis and photocatalytic activity of ultrathin two-dimensional porphyrin nanodisks via covalent organic framework exfoliation

The exfoliation of covalent organic frameworks is a potential route to interesting two-dimensional materials.
