  • Here, the authors characterize the spectroscopic and transport properties of heterojunctions composed of quasi-metallic and semiconducting graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with different widths, showing a predominant quantum tunnelling mechanism. The GNR heterojunctions can also be used to realize adsorbate sensors with high sensitivity.

  • Interactions between a localized magnetic moment and electrons in a metal can produce an emergent resonance that affects the metal’s properties. A realization of this Kondo effect in MoS2 provides an opportunity to study it in microscopic detail.

  • A charge density wave (CDW) normally creates a gap at the Fermi level, inducing a metal-insulator transition. Here, the authors report that a CDW gap resides in the unoccupied states but induces a topological metal-metal transition at the Fermi level in monolayer VS2.
