Kanaya et al. show that endocrine-disrupting chemicals polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) enhance 17β-estradiol-mediated regrowth of mammary glands. This study suggests that PBDE may increase the risk of developing breast cancer by regulating the growth of estrogen-responsive luminal epithelial cells and the immune response.
