An investigation on the impact of visual landmarks on the neural encoding of saccade targets in the frontal lobe areas FEF and SEF using Rhesus Monkeys concluded that landmark signals persist in prefrontal target responses, and these responses interact to generate target codes in intermediate ego/allocentric reference frames.
