Impaired ion channels regulating Golgi pH may cause altered Golgi morphology. Here authors identify TMEM87A as a pH-regulation cation channel expressed in astrocytes and neurons and determine the cryo-EM structure to understand the ion permeation pathway.

Hypothalamic GABRA5-positive neurons control obesity via astrocytic GABA

The authors identify a role for GABRA5 neurons in the lateral hypothalamus for energy balance regulation. Inhibiting these neurons increases weight gain and lipid accumulation through a process dependent on astrocytic GABA release.

Hypothalamic astrocyte NAD⁺ salvage pathway mediates the coupling of dietary fat overconsumption in a mouse model of obesity

The cellular levels of the critical coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)⁺ depend on its salvage pathway. Here, the authors show that the NAD⁺ salvage pathway in hypothalamic astrocytes is activated to promote obesity in high fat diet-fed mice.
