Elevated nonhomologous end-joining by AATF enables efficient DNA damage repair and therapeutic resistance in glioblastoma

Glioma stem-like cells (GSCs) contribute to therapeutic resistance via enhanced capability of DNA damage repair. Here the authors identify that the upregulated transcription factor AATF in GSCs modulates the stability and release of XRCC4 protein to promote DNA repair and resistance to radiotherapy.

The receptor VLDLR binds Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus through multiple distinct modes

Eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV) uses the very low-density lipoprotein receptor (VLDLR) to infect cells of different species. This study finds that the ecto LA repeats of VLDLR binds EEEV at three distinct sites, generating multiple different binding modes that facilitate the cross-species transmission of EEEV.

Suppression of mitochondrial ROS by prohibitin drives glioblastoma progression and therapeutic resistance

How ROS levels are regulated in cancer stem cells and their contribution to cancer resistance is currently not clear. Here, the authors show that prohibitin regulates mitochondrial ROS production stabilizing the peroxidase PRDX3 and this accounts for radiotherapy resistance in glioma stem-like cells.

Histidine modulates amyloid-like assembly of peptide nanomaterials and confers enzyme-like activity

In this work, the authors report that Histidine residues play a critical role in modulating amyloid-like assembly and building active sites for Fmoc–F–F and Aβ aggregates. Aβ1-42 filaments were found to perform peroxidase-like activity to enhance oxidative stress, which might also be ascribed to the interaction mode of His and F-F.
