The lncRNA landscape of breast cancer reveals a role for DSCAM-AS1 in breast cancer progression

LncRNAs have been associated with cancer. Here, the authors carry out a systematic review of lncRNAs in breast cancer and show that DSCAM-AS1is highly expressed in oestrogen receptor positive tumours and enhances cancer through an interaction with hnRNPL; and is also associated with tamoxifen resistance.

By taking advantage of stimulated Raman spectroscopy and fibre-laser technology, virtual histology images can be obtained in real time in the operating room, with diagnostic quality comparable with that achieved via conventional histopathology.

Regulation of heterotopic ossification by monocytes in a mouse model of aberrant wound healing

Aberrant tissue repair may result in heterotopic ossification (HO), but how this process is regulated by local inflammatory responses is still unclear. Here the authors show, using a mouse burn/trauma model, that TGFβ-producing monocytes/macrophages at the injury site contribute to HO induction, while CD47 activation helps antagonize this process.

Analysis of the androgen receptor–regulated lncRNA landscape identifies a role for ARLNC1 in prostate cancer progression

ARLNC1 is a newly discovered lncRNA that is induced by androgen receptor (AR) and maintains AR signaling by stabilizing the AR transcript. Knockdown of ARLNC1 suppresses AR expression, AR signaling and prostate cancer growth in vitro and in vivo.
