EPPS rescues hippocampus-dependent cognitive deficits in APP/PS1 mice by disaggregation of amyloid-β oligomers and plaques

Amyloid-beta deposits are a pathological hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease, and have previously been targeted in immunisation therapies. Here, the authors show that oral administration of the small molecule EPPS reduces Aß plaque and oligomer load in APP/PS1 mice and improves learning and memory performance.

Ketohexokinase-A acts as a nuclear protein kinase that mediates fructose-induced metastasis in breast cancer

Apart from the enzymatic role of ketohexokinase isoform A (KHK-A) in fructose metabolism the alternative physiological functions of the enzyme are unclear. Here, the authors show that KHK-A mediates fructose-induced metastasis in breast cancer through a nuclear role in repressing the transcriptional activity of the cell-adhesion molecule CDH1.

This Analysis reports the development and assessment of 645 multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mass spectrometry assays to quantify 319 targeted human breast cancer proteins. The results of this pilot project coordinated among three individual groups suggest that an organized international effort to generate MRM assays to the human proteome will be possible.
