Chang Zhang, Lei Shen et al show that conditional deletion of the splicing factor Srsf2 in hepatocytes leads to activation and expansion of hepatic progenitor cells and eventually to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in aged mice. These findings may be relevant to HCC development in humans.
