The outstanding regeneration of Hydra’s excised tissue fragments occurs via initial spontaneous bending, but the triggering factors and bending dynamics are yet to understand. By realizing an Active Laminated-Plate model, the authors find that the bending process originates from actomyosin bundles inherited from parent Hydra, and it starts diffusively from the edges, later relaxing to the equilibrium shape.
