Remodeling adipocytes’ lipid metabolism with a polycation loaded enzyme-active framework reverses osteoporotic bone marrow

In osteoporosis, bone marrow adipocytes (BMAds) accumulate, but their functions are not well understood. Here, Lin et al. show that BMAds promote senescence in neighbouring cells by releasing excess fatty acids, then develop a BMAd targeting nanoparticle to interfere with BMAd lipid metabolism as a strategy to treat osteoporosis.

Regenerating aged bone marrow via a nitric oxide nanopump

LepR⁺ cells senescence is a driver of aging-induced bone marrow homeostasis collapse. Here, Li et al. report a LepR⁺ cell-targeting nitric oxide (NO) nanopump for rejuvenation of senescent LepR⁺ cells via activation of glycolysis signaling to reestablish homeostasis of the aged bone marrow.

Converting organosulfur compounds to inorganic polysulfides against resistant bacterial infections

Garlic has a mild antibacterial activity due to its organosulfur content. Here, the authors develop an approach to convert natural organosulfur into iron-sulfur nanosheets, with significantly higher antibacterial activity that can be used against infections as well as biofilms.

ROS-induced R loops trigger a transcription-coupled but BRCA1/2-independent homologous recombination pathway through CSB

Transcription-coupled homologous recombination (TC-HR) is activated by reactive oxygen species-induced DNA damage to maintain transcribed genome stability. The authors demonstrate that R loops are induced by ROS at the transcribed genome, triggering a CSB-RAD52- dependent but BRCA1/2-independent RAD51 loading for repair.
