Tonsils fixed for 6 h (b and f) show specific immunohistochemistry staining of kappa light chain antigen but no kappa light chain mRNA signals. Tonsils fixed for 22 h (c and g) show sporadic mRNA staining along the peripheral edges. In all, 15-min ultrasound-fixed tonsils (d and h) demonstrate strong, specific mRNA staining of plasma cells in the germinal center and the peripheral edge, corresponding to immunohistochemistry signals.
