Protocols for zebrafish embryo injections

The April 2010 “Protocol Review” column discussed protocol requirements for a Zebrafish Injection Core (ZINC) at Great Eastern University proposed by Dr. Peter Finn1. The ZINC's primary activities would be to microinject RNA and DNA oligonucleotides or interference RNA into zebrafish embryos. The IACUC questioned how ZINC would handle certain situations: (i) an embryo that hatched early; (ii) an investigator who decided to allow an embryo to develop into an adult; and (iii) an injection product that required approval from the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) before use in an embryo. I think the IACUC's concerns are valid, and I offer the following comments on the scenario.
