Lundberg and Johansson repeat our observations on the detection of VP22 import into cells after its introduction into tissue culture media1. But they also report that the protein associates with the nucleus after application to pre-fixed cells, and conclude from this that the observation of VP22 import is attributable to this phenomenon, occurring during the fixation process.
