The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved 17 new drugs before the end of June.

The lowdown: The FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) is on track for another solid year, with 17 approvals in the first 6 months of 2014 (Table 1). The US regulators approved 13 drugs in the first 6 months of 2013, with 27 over the full year (Nature Rev. Drug Discov. 13, 85–89; 2014). They approved 14 in the first half of 2012, and hit a 15-year high of 39 for the full year.
