Long-term outcomes in patients with HCC after radioembolization

The role of radioembolization with yttrium-90 (90Y)-labeled microspheres in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still being defined. Riad Salem and colleagues now report the long-term outcomes of patients with HCC treated with 90Y-labeled microspheres in a single-center, prospective cohort study.

291 patients with HCC underwent treatment. Response rates and time to progression (TTP) were assessed using strict imaging criteria based on WHO guidelines that were modifed for locoregional therapy, as well as EASL guidelines, which take into account the amount of enhancing tissue. Survival by stage was also assessed.
