The scaffold protein Ste5 is involved in the mating (or pheromone) response mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Ste5 interacts with the different components of the mating pathway — the MAPK Fus3, the MAPK kinase (MAPKK) Ste7 and the MAPKK kinase Ste11 — and has separate binding sites for each of these proteins. But how does Ste5 interact with these kinases, especially with Fus3, and how does it promote proper signalling?

...other scaffolds might also have many roles in shaping signalling responses...controlling and coordinating their behaviour to precisely tune the amplitude and dynamics of the response.
