The presence of a major depressive episode (MDE) is associated with progression to maintenance dialysis, hospitalization, or death in patients with early stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD), according to new findings. “The association of an MDE with poor outcomes in patients with CKD was independent of other clinical factors that predict poor outcomes in this patient population”, explains the study's corresponding author, Susan Hedayati.
