Safe beginners: Should the profession be concerned?

According to the General Dental Council, a safe beginner is defined as 'a rounded professional who, in addition to being a competent clinician and/or technician, will have the range of professional skills required to begin working as part of a dental team and be well prepared for independent practice. They will be able to assess their own capabilities and limitations, act within these boundaries and will know when to request support and advice'.1
