My parents are both in their 60s, and they do this hilarious thing of either grabbing their glasses or holding their phone at arm's length just to read it. 'Old age', they quibble.

Of course, the rise of smartphones is inextricably linked with the rise of social media and associated popularity. The latest 2022 Ofcom Adults' Media use report states that 98% of 16 to 24-year olds have a social media profile, making them the biggest users of social networking sites in Britain. As people get older, social media usage statistics by age point to a decline. Thus, while 97% of 25 to 34-year-olds have a social networking profile, the same is true for only 67% of the 65+ age group.1
