In an era where artificial intelligence is starting to reshape the contours of virtually every industry, dentistry might not be the first field that comes to mind. Yet, Dr. Manas Dave is pushing the boundaries, exploring how AI can revolutionise academic publishing, healthcare and education. With a groundbreaking AI-authored paper published in May 2023 in the BDJ alongside Dr Neil Patel that has already got over 23,000 views and 47 citations,1 Manas and Neil are igniting conversations about the utility and ethical implications of AI in academia and beyond.

‘We embarked on this project to test the limits of artificial intelligence in academic publishing,' Manas begins. ‘By allowing ChatGPT to write the paper in its entirety, we aimed to spark dialogue about AI's role in academic writing and research.'
