Parents are recommended to take their child to their first dental visit as soon as their first tooth can be seen, this is usually around 6 months. However, in 2019, only around 14% of children in England visited the dentist before their first birthday. Statistics have shown that in 2019, over two thirds of young toddlers did not visit an NHS dentist despite the fact that NHS dental care is free for children.1
