Widening horizons in dentistry internationally

In September 2024, as a 3rd-year dental student, I had the opportunity to attend the annual Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) conference in Leuven, Belgium, which brings clinicians and teaching staff from across the world together for meetings and workshops aiming to continually develop high quality dental education across dental schools in Europe.1 I represented Dundee Dental Connect, a staff-student co-creation initiative tackling dental inequality in our local communities.2 The success of this collaborative project inspired us to want to share it globally. By taking our project to be discussed at an international conference, we aimed to inspire other dental schools to start similar initiatives and encourage collaborative education in schools.

Attending the ADEE conference was an incredible adventure that exceeded my expectations about the benefits that an international conference could provide me as an undergraduate. It allowed me to promote my university and ongoing initiatives, network with clinicians from all over the world at the top of their field and explore new technologies surrounding AI in dentistry - the theme of this ADEE conference. One highlight was using realistic AI simulators to practice block injections and caries removal. The welcoming and supportive environment at ADEE fostered a strong sense of community, making every event and talk engaging and valuable.
