Medication

Frequency and duration

Topical steroid (e.g. dexamethasone 0.1%)

2 hourly—1 week

4 times/day—1–2 weeks

Taper off over 4–6 weeks

Topical antibiotic (e.g. chloramphenicol 0.5%)

4 times/day—until corneal sutures dissolved

(Not required if using a combination drop e.g. maxitrol i.e. in cases not receiving a contact lens)

Mydriatic (e.g. cyclopentolate 0.5 or 1%)

2–3 times/day—2 weeks

Combined steroid and antibiotic (e.g. maxitrol ointment)

At night—3 weeks
