  1. General conditions: 113 mmol HCOOK, 0.009 mol% metal-catalyst (10 µmol, 88 ppm), Solvent/H2O (25 mL total), 60 °C, 6 h. [a] HCOONa. [b] 13 h. [c] 275 mmol HCOOK. [d] 90 °C. [e] 0.0004 mol% Ru-5 (1 µmol, 3.6 ppm). [f] 46 h. Volume and content of the gas phase were analyzed by manual burettes and gas chromatography (GC), respectively, after correction by the blank volume. CO is not detectable in all cases (CO quantitation limit of applied GC is <10 ppm). Yield of H2 is calculated by (mmol H2)/(mmol HCOOK)·100%. TON of H2 is calculated by (mmol H2)/(mmol catalyst). All experiments were performed at least twice; average values are shown (St. Dev.<10%). dppe: 1,2 bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane; dppm: bis(diphenylphosphino)methane; TPPTS: Triphenylphosphine-3,3′,3′′-trisulfonic acid trisodium salt.
