In Experiment 1, officers were given discretion in delivering transparency statements, similar to how they would outside the experimental context. The similarities in their statements is reflected in the fact that they start by indicating their benevolent intent for initiating the interaction, and in a meaningful manipulation check effect (see the main text). |
