Panel (a) displays prefixes, and panel (b) shows suffixes. Type frequency refers to the number of distinct words that contain a given affix. Notably, the values on the y-axis in panels (a) and (b) differ substantially, reflecting the fact that suffixes are used in many more distinct words than prefixes.
