This figure shows the predicted means of Standardized Ratings as a function of Scale Condition, Worker Race Condition, and Modern Racist Beliefs (at 1 SD above and below the mean) in supplemental study F (N = 536). Error bars represent 95% confidence intervals. Participants with higher modern racist beliefs (+1 SD) who used the five-star scale rated non-White workers more negatively than White workers, b = −0.21, SE = 0.08, t(528) = −2.46, p = 0.014, 95% CI: [−0.37, −0.04], sr2 = 0.01. Participants with higher modern racist beliefs (+1 SD) who used the thumbs up/down scale did not differ in their ratings by Worker Race, b = 0.14, SE = 0.09, t(528) = 1.63, p = 0.103, 95% CI: [−0.03, 0.31], sr2 = 0.005. Participants with lower modern racist beliefs (−1SD) who used the five-star scale did not significantly differ in their ratings by worker race, b = 0.13, SE = 0.09, t(528) = 1.48, p = 0.138, 95% CI: [−0.04, 0.29], sr2 = 0.004. Similarly, Participants with lower modern racist beliefs (−1SD) who used the thumbs up/down scale did not differ in their ratings by worker race, b = −0.02, SE = 0.08, t(528) = −0.28, p = 0.783, 95% CI: [−0.19, 0.14], sr2 < 0.001. This analysis was two-sided.
