Visual health of 7 colonies exposed to a long-term heat stress experiment. (a) Proportion of bleaching categories (visual score) per colony and treatment at the end of the experiment. Nubbins were categorized as healthy, paling (> 10% of the nubbin with pigment loss), bleached, bone white (> 80% of the nubbin white) or dead (0% of living tissue). Dead nubbins were removed from the tanks to avoid pathogen contamination. (b) Individual Bleaching Mortality index per colony and treatment computed from proportion of bleaching categories among fragments of group.
