(D) Merged immunofluorescence staining images of MBP (red) and ATP1A3 (green). The co-expression of ATP1A3 with MBP suggests that they are myelinated proprioceptive sensory fibers. The large nonsympathetic fiber that lacks ATP1A3 expression (MBP+/ATP1A3-) appears to be involved in mechanosensation rather than in proprioception.
