The red box denotes the downscaled region with a horizontal resolution of 1/70° inside a 1/20° resolution large domain, and the high-resolution region within the red box is the focus of this study. The black contours depict the 200, 2000, and 3500 m isobaths, respectively. The solid red curve represents a typical intrusion path of the Kuroshio Looping Current into the northeastern SCS while the red circle and dotted arrow illustrate the mesoscale eddy and its moving direction after the eddy sheds from the KLC.
