Bright contrast of PEG-SPIONs generated by susceptibility gradient mapping (SGM) post-processing of T2* weighted gradient recalled echo sequences calculated from Eq. (1), shown in (A) U87MG and (B) RN1-luc. In RN1-luc, abnormal blood vessels are visible in the right hemisphere post-SPION injection (yellow arrows). Tumour affected area is outlined in dotted green, corresponding to T2 weighted hyperintensity. U87MG, which is a more permeable tumour, shows a high concentration of PEG-SPION in a highly vascularised region.
