  1. Note: “-“ indicates the blank entries.
  2. 1. ID-Editorial: Editorial number (coded with a number) ordered from the oldest (lowest number) to the newest (highest number) editorials.
  3. 2. ID-in article: Opinion sentences in editorials were coded with a number in chronological order.
  4. 3. Senders: The node expressing their opinion (coded with node name following the list of sample nodes).
  5. 4. Receivers: Code nodes representing a sender’s expressed opinion (coded with node name following the list of sample nodes).a
  6. 5. Content: Positive or negative opinion.
  7. 6. Level: Magnitude of opinion (coded as a number −2, −1, 1, 2).
  8. 7. Time: Editorial’s publication day (Month, Day, Year).b
  9. 8. Topic: Whether a sentence was a topic (coded as 1) or not (coded as 0).
  10. 9. Newspaper: Newspaper’s name: Hankyoreh or Chosun.
  11. 10. Week: Week of editorial’s publication after Sewol Ferry Disaster (coded in weeks from 1 to 38).
  12. a Two different labels for the nodes were sender and receiver (Wasserman and Faust 1994), or tail and head (Butts 2008).
  13. b Editorials’ days of publication were reported inconsistently. Hankyoreh reported the days and times when the news editorial was posted on the website. Chosun posted only the days on which the editorials were published. However, I analyzed the data weekly. Thus, the time difference between editorials reported by Hankyoreh and Chosun did not matter because Hankyoreh posted its first editorial day before it issued the written version (Sunday – Friday), while Chosun issued its editorials on Monday through Saturday. This difference was eliminated when coding weekly.
