  1. NAFL, non-alcoholic fatty liver; NAFLD, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease; NASH, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Data are expressed as the mean ± s.d. and were analysed using a one-way ANOVA and Student–Newman–Keuls post-hoc analyses or Kruskal–Wallis ANOVA on ranks with a Dunn’s test. P < 0.05, indicated in the table. For steatosis and NAS score, NAFL and NASH were significantly different than no NAFLD. Inflammation and fibrosis: NASH was significantly greater than no NAFLD. Ballooning: NASH was significantly greater than NAFL and no NAFLD.
