Schematic representation of the main components of the testing setup (Supplementary Fig. 1) replicated in CFD simulations, including reactor vessel and stirrer types. Main dimensions are indicated, including those of the vessel, the height of the modelled polymer melt, and the diameter (D) and blade height (L) common to the three stirrer types. The mesh used for the propeller type in CFD simulations is shown as representative. The main experimentally imposed or monitored operation variables with their ranges are provided. Stirring of polyethylene with and without catalyst particles in the experimental setup is available in Supplementary Video 3.
