Reversible control of spin-polarized supercurrents in ferromagnetic Josephson junctions

The ability to manipulate spin-polarized supercurrents could enable the development of superconducting spintronic devices whose performance exceeds that of conventional spintronics. Banerjee et al.demonstrate a superconducting analogue of the archetypical spintronic device, the spin valve.

Optical manipulation of single flux quanta

Here, Veshchunov et al.realize a fast and precise manipulation of individual vortices using a far-field optical method, providing a simple way towards optical control of Josephson transport.

Giant superconductivity-induced modulation of the ferromagnetic magnetization in a cuprate–manganite superlattice

Oxide heterostructures offer new functionality based on the interaction of order parameters across the heterostructure interfaces. In particular, it is now demonstrated that superconducting layers can induce giant modulations of magnetization in adjacent ferromagnetic layers.

Direct observation of a superconducting vortex diode

A nonreciprocal critical current is known as the superconducting diode effect (SDE). Here, the authors use SQUID-on-tip to study SDE in a EuS/Nb bilayer and find that the stray field from magnetized EuS creates screening currents in the Nb, which lead to SDE by affecting vortex flow dynamics.

Quasiparticle tunnel electroresistance in superconducting junctions

The non-volatile switching of tunnel electroresistance in ferroelectric junctions provides the basis for memory and neuromorphic computing devices. Rouco et al. show tunnel electroresistance in superconductor-based junctions that arises from a redox rather than ferroelectric mechanism and is enhanced by superconductivity.

Direct observation of melting in a two-dimensional superconducting vortex lattice

A two-dimensional lattice of vortices melts into an isotropic liquid with increasing temperature. A microscopic view of the melting transition reveals that this actually occurs in three steps, one of which is an unusual liquid-crystal-like vortex phase.
