Dissociation dynamics of singly charged vortices into half-quantum vortex pairs

Half-quantized vortices are the fundamental topological excitations of a two-component superfluid, however, probing the dynamics of their formation is challenging. Manni et al.report real-time observations of polariton vortices unbinding into half-quantized vortex pairs in an exciton-polariton condensate.

Multistability of a coherent spin ensemble in a semiconductor microcavity

The manipulation of spin states is a key requirement in spintronics. In semiconductor microcavities, a multistate switching of the spin state of polaritons, which form as a result of the coupling of photons and excitons in the microcavity, may lead to new spintronics devices.

Bose–Einstein condensation of exciton polaritons

This paper presents a comprehensive set of experiments in which polaritons are excited in a semiconductor microcavity. Above a critical density of polaritons, massive occupation of the ground state at 19 K is observed and various pieces of experimental evidence point to a spontaneous onset of a macroscopic quantum phase.

Feshbach resonances provide a powerful tool for engineering interactions in ultracold atomic gases. The strong exciton–photon coupling in semiconductor microcavities facilitates the demonstration of a polaritonic Feshbach resonance with promising implications for manipulating polariton quantum fluids.

Quantized vortices in an exciton–polariton condensate

When a superfluid—such as liquid helium—is set in rotation, vortices appear in which circulation around a closed loop can take only discrete values. Such quantized vortices have now been observed in a solid-state system—a Bose–Einstein condensate made of exciton polaritons.

Ultrafast tristable spin memory of a coherent polariton gas
