Dehydroxylative radical N-glycosylation of heterocycles with 1-hydroxycarbohydrates enabled by copper metallaphotoredox catalysis

N-Glycosylated heterocycles play important roles in biological systems and drug development, but the synthesis heavily relies on ionic N-glycosylation. Herein, the authors report a dehydroxylative radical method for synthesizing N-glycosides by leveraging copper metallaphotoredox catalysis.

Prevention of dendrite growth and volume expansion to give high-performance aprotic bimetallic Li-Na alloy–O₂ batteries

The use of Li or Na as electrodes in Li-Na alloy–O₂ batteries creates formidable challenges for both safety and stability because of their oxidative corrosion and the growth of dendrites and cracks on their surface. Now, an aprotic bimetal Li-Na alloy–O₂ battery with high cycling stability has been developed using a Li-Na eutectic alloy anode and an electrolyte additive.

The Mg-chelatase H subunit is an abscisic acid receptor

The phytohormone abscisic acid (ABA) regulates a variety of physiological processes in plants. A molecule involved in chlorophyll biosynthesis, the H-subunit of Mg-chelatase functions as an ABA receptor. This interaction controls seed germination and stomatal movement.

Aharonov–Bohm oscillations in Dirac semimetal Cd₃As₂ nanowires

Dirac semimetals are a three-dimensional analogue of graphene that can support massless Dirac fermions in their bulk and Fermi-arc surface states. Here, the authors observe Aharonov–Bohm oscillations in transport measurements on Cd₃As₂nanowires, revealing these exotic surface states.

Layer-by-layer assembly of vertically conducting graphene devices

Vertically assembled graphene devices have received less attention than the typical two dimensional arrangements. Chen et al. show that an Au/graphene/Au assembly exhibits a large magnetoresistance ratio of up to 400%, while a Co/graphene/Co device displays a spin valve effect at room temperature.

Giant negative magnetoresistance induced by the chiral anomaly in individual Cd₃As₂ nanowires

Dirac semimetals possess an electronic dispersion relation which is linear in three dimensions, making them three-dimensional analogues of graphene. Here, the authors report large negative magnetoresistance in single-crystal Cd₃As₂nanowires, evidencing a sought-after chiral anomaly effect.
