The growth of super-large pre-planetary pebbles to an impact erosion limit

In a suborbital experiment and complementary numerical simulations, submillimetre-sized particles bouncing off each other become charged and form centimetre-sized clusters. This mechanism could bridge the size gap in the early planet formation process.

Electrical charging overcomes the bouncing barrier in planet formation

In our understanding of planetary formation, it is still unclear how millimetre-sized dust grains grow into centimetre-sized aggregates. Microgravity experiments now show that electrical charging of the grains leads to the formation of larger clumps.

Disruption of the C/EBPα—miR-182 balance impairs granulocytic differentiation

C/EBPα is a critical transcription factor involved in myelopoiesis and its inactivation is associated with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Here the authors show a negative feedback loop between C/EBPα and miR-182 and identify this miRNA as a marker of high-risk AML.
