Freezing induced incorporation of betaine in lipid nanoparticles enhances mRNA delivery

Cryoprotectants are needed for the storage of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). Here, the authors report on a study which shows that freezing can be harnessed to reformulate LNPs in a way that both preserves their integrity and boosts mRNA delivery after sub-zero storage by increasing endosomal escape.

Lattice O–O ligands in Fe-incorporated hydroxides enhance water oxidation electrocatalysis

While the ligand coordination microenvironment surrounding catalytic centres influences reactivity, dynamic oxygen reconstruction during water oxidation electrocatalysis complicates structure-based mechanistic insights. Now the in situ formation of lattice O–O ligands has been shown to activate Fe centres in metal oxides and hydroxides, thereby enhancing their oxygen evolution reaction activity.

Autonomous helical propagation of active toroids with mechanical action
