Human activities release huge amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere, and much of this is soaked up by the oceans, hence regulating the global carbon cycle. These processes are driven by various physical and biogeochemical factors, which are expected to change under ongoing climate change. Therefore, the social cost of climate change mitigation substantially depends on how climate change modulates ocean CO2 uptake.
