Multidrug resistance in the pathogenic fungus Candida glabrata is a growing global threat. Here, the authors show that a mutation in gene IPI1, involved in pre-rRNA processing, leads to multidrug resistance in this pathogen by affecting the interactions between two chaperones and a transcription factor that regulates multidrug transporter expression.
